Resumo: O texto analisa cartas psicografadas por Chico Xavier, atribuídas a recém-falecidos, examinando-as sob a perspectiva da pragmática linguística. O objetivo é investigar se a informação contida nas cartas pode ser validada como comunicação com os falecidos, considerando elementos como assinatura, conhecimento privado e intenção do suposto emissor. A análise se apoia em modelos de comunicação e linguística forense, buscando ir além de aspectos superficiais da mensagem. O estudo busca contribuir para o debate sobre mediunidade e imortalidade da alma, utilizando as cartas de Chico Xavier como um caso de estudo único e rico em dados. A pesquisa também destaca a necessidade de traduções para ampliar o conhecimento internacional sobre a obra de Chico Xavier.

Abstract: The text analyzes letters psychographed by Chico Xavier, attributed to the recently deceased, examining them from the perspective of linguistic pragmatics. The objective is to investigate whether the information contained in the letters can be validated as communication with the deceased, considering elements such as signature, private knowledge and intention of the supposed sender. The analysis is based on models of communication and forensic linguistics, seeking to go beyond superficial aspects of the message. The study seeks to contribute to the debate on mediumship and immortality of the soul, using Chico Xavier’s letters as a unique and data-rich case study. The research also highlights the need for translations to expand international knowledge about Chico Xavier’s work.
