Resumo: O artigo investiga a autoria da mensagem “O Egoísmo” em O Evangelho Segundo o Espiritismo, atribuída a Emmanuel, o mentor espiritual de Chico Xavier. A análise compara a linguagem da mensagem com outras obras atribuídas a Emmanuel, revelando discrepâncias significativas. Chico Xavier, embora acreditasse na autoria de Emmanuel, expressou essa crença como convicção pessoal, não como informação revelada. A pesquisa conclui que a mensagem provavelmente não foi escrita por Emmanuel, sugerindo a possibilidade de homonímia. A investigação se baseia em fontes primárias, incluindo entrevistas e obras espíritas.

Abstract: This article investigates the authorship of the message “O Egoísmo” in The Gospel According to Spiritism, attributed to Emmanuel, Chico Xavier’s spiritual mentor. The analysis compares the language of the message with other works attributed to Emmanuel, revealing significant discrepancies. Chico Xavier, although he believed in Emmanuel’s authorship, expressed this belief as a personal conviction, not as revealed information. The research concludes that the message was probably not written by Emmanuel, suggesting the possibility of homonymy. The investigation is based on primary sources, including interviews and spiritist works.
