Abstract: The text discusses the variation in the spelling of Allan Kardec’s civil name in different official and unofficial documents, analyzing the causes of this divergence. The research covers several historical sources, including birth and marriage certificates, wills, and records in dictionaries and encyclopedias, to determine the most accurate spelling. The opinions of several Spiritist authors on the subject are presented and compared, revealing different interpretations of the evidence and debates about the importance of official documents versus other sources. Finally, the text concludes with the presentation of a French court decision from 1869 that establishes a specific spelling.
