Spiritists, such as Allan Kardec, argue that Lazarus was not really dead, but in a state of lethargy, interpreting the biblical narrative in light of scientific and philosophical knowledge. Opponents, on the other hand, support the biblical narrative as literal proof of the resurrection, questioning the Spiritist interpretation as a distortion of faith. The discussion extends to the analysis of biblical language, questioning translations and contextual interpretations, and the nature of miracles. The author of the text vigorously defends the Spiritist position, refuting opposing arguments point by point.
