Resumo: O artigo analisa as mudanças e acréscimos nas edições de *O Livro dos Espíritos*, de Allan Kardec, da primeira (1857) à décima sexta (1869). Ele compara a participação de Kardec e dos espíritos na obra, quantifica as alterações entre as edições, e examina a evolução da redação, mostrando como Kardec transformou textos em perguntas e respostas, aprimorando a clareza da doutrina espírita. A análise inclui tabelas comparativas que detalham as mudanças quantitativas e qualitativas no texto ao longo das edições. O estudo conclui que a segunda edição representa uma obra praticamente nova, devido à profunda revisão feita por Kardec.

Abstract: This article analyzes the changes and additions in the editions of *The Spirits’ Book*, by Allan Kardec, from the first (1857) to the sixteenth (1869). It compares the participation of Kardec and the spirits in the work, quantifies the changes between editions, and examines the evolution of the writing, showing how Kardec transformed texts into questions and answers, improving the clarity of the Spiritist doctrine. The analysis includes comparative tables that detail the quantitative and qualitative changes in the text throughout the editions. The study concludes that the second edition represents a practically new work, due to the in-depth revision made by Kardec.
