Resumo: O artigo “Rasgando o Véu do Esquecimento do Passado” investiga o surgimento, na metade do século XX, dos fenômenos de “birthmarks” (marcas de nascença) e memória extracerebral, analisando estudos de Stevenson, Banerjee e Andrade. A pesquisa examina a localização da memória (cérebro, perispírito, alma) sob perspectivas científica e espírita, explorando a controvérsia sobre a memória extracerebral dentro do espiritismo. Um caso de estudo, “Simone X Angelina”, ilustra a conexão entre marcas de nascença, memórias de vidas passadas e períodos curtos de intermissão entre reencarnações. Finalmente, o artigo questiona se esses fenômenos contradizem o pensamento de Allan Kardec sobre o esquecimento do passado.

Abstract: The article “Tearing the Veil of Forgetfulness of the Past” investigates the emergence, in the mid-20th century, of the phenomena of “birthmarks” and extracerebral memory, analyzing studies by Stevenson, Banerjee and Andrade. The research examines the location of memory (brain, perispirit, soul) from scientific and spiritualist perspectives, exploring the controversy over extracerebral memory within spiritualism. A case study, “Simone X Angelina”, illustrates the connection between birthmarks, memories of past lives and short periods of intermission between reincarnations. Finally, the article questions whether these phenomena contradict Allan Kardec’s thinking on forgetting the past.
