Resumo: O artigo acadêmico investiga a controvérsia sobre qual edição de *A Gênese*, de Allan Kardec, é a definitiva. Uma tese anterior alegava que a 5ª edição, lançada em 1872, era uma adulteração póstuma. No entanto, a descoberta de um exemplar da 5ª edição datado de 1869, contesta essa tese. O artigo apresenta evidências históricas, documentais e legais que sustentam a autoria de Kardec na edição de 1869, propondo-a como a versão definitiva. A pesquisa abrange aspectos da legislação francesa de imprensa e o contexto da publicação das obras de Kardec.

Abstract: This academic article investigates the controversy over which edition of Allan Kardec’s *Genesis* is the definitive one. A previous thesis claimed that the 5th edition, released in 1872, was a posthumous adulteration. However, the discovery of a copy of the 5th edition dated 1869 challenges this thesis. The article presents historical, documentary and legal evidence that supports Kardec’s authorship of the 1869 edition, proposing it as the definitive version. The research covers aspects of French press legislation and the context of the publication of Kardec’s works.
